Jeff Demps reports to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers could have a new kick returner.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally have Jeff Demps in the fold, according to reports by Pewter Report and Ian Rapoport. The track sprinter reports to Tampa today, after spending most of the past year running track events. The Buccaneers will have a two week roster exemption during which they can evaluate Demps, without him taking up a roster spot.

Whether Demps makes the roster is a better question, though. Kickoff returns are becoming increasingly rare, and having a dedicated return man who doesn't contribute much elsewhere wouldn't be a wise use of a roster spot. But letting Demps show off his speed in practice for two weeks won't hurt the Bucs, either.

There's a chance the Buccaneers will find themselves with an electric returner if Demps works out, but given the fact that he hasn't played football for over a year and has missed all of the offseason, the odds of that happening may not be very high.
