Vincent Jackson has five-week rib injury, wants to play with painkillers

Vincent Jackson may be able to play through a five-week rib injury, but his participation in today's game against the Arizona Cardinals is still up in the air.

UPDATE: Vincent Jackson will play against the Arizona Cardinals, as well Mike Williams.

Vincent Jackson is dealing with a five-week rib injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Jackson apparently injured two ribs, and that injury generally takes five weeks to heal. Jackson could play through that injury with painkillers and Rapoport says he wants to play against the Arizona Cardinals today, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be more cautious and rest him today, giving him a couple of weeks to heal with the bye week coming up.

Vincent Jackson missed two practices this week with the rib injury and was limited in the third practice. With Mike Glennon making the start, the Bucs desperately need their star receivers to play for them to win the first game of the season. With Mike Williams hobbled with a hamstring injury and no healthy receiving tight ends on the roster, the Bucs have no real weapons for Glennon to throw to.

We should get definitive word on whether or not Vincent Jackson plays later today. The official inactives list will come out at 12:30 p.m. ET. If you're wondering whether to start him in fantasy, you should wait for that list to come out.
