The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a disaster right now. They're 0-3 and have lost eight of the last nine games. The passing offense is going nowhere and the fanbase is clamoring for a change. All of that is pretty bad. And when bad stuff happens, we get silly rumors. One of those silly rumors is that Greg Schiano is bound to be the next head coach at the University of Texas at Austin.
These are nothing more than rumors. There are no credible reports suggesting that this is even a possibility. And we know what happens with rumors, especially in college football: connect struggling team with likely to be fired or available NFL head coach = pageviews! Which is how we've had rumors of Jon Gruden joining every college team under the sun, while he sits comfortably in the booth on Monday night. Rumors are rumors, and it's best to treat them as such.
Why would Greg Schiano leave his NFL head coaching job, anyway? It would be one thing if he was fired, but he's still the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach and he didn't sign on to that job just to bolt back to college as soon as he can. As long as Schiano is employed by the Glazers, all of this is academic.
Who knows, maybe Greg Schiano will be fired and then join Texas University. It's far from impossible that that will happen. For now, though, these are just rumors that can safely be disregarded. You won't find Schiano in Texas. Unless you're looking for some pizza.
