Darrelle Revis says he's happy in Tampa, despite one report to the contrary. I'd be pretty happy with $16 million per year, too, regardless of how I was being used to play defense in the NFL.
What's going on Buc fans. Just to clear the smoke. I'm happy to be a Buccaneer & I'm happy to be a resident of Tampa.— Darrelle Revis (@Revis24) September 17, 2013
I'm excited for this year & I'm excited about this team as we move forward to prepare each week to get a W!!!— Darrelle Revis (@Revis24) September 17, 2013
Now, this doesn't mean that Revis is completely happy with the Bucaneers, or with his role on defense. Players routinely issue "I'm very happy" statements when the subject of a little bit of controversy, unless they really, really want to force their way out of their situation. Which Revis certainly doesn't want to do.
That said, Revis has a little reason to be unhappy. While the defense played well against the New Orleans Saints, the Buccaneers mostly played zone coverage -- and when Revis did get to match up man-to-man, he often had safety help and was almost never on the Saints' best receiver. Revis played very well and did his job -- but that's not exactly a great use of a cornerback you're paying $16 million and gave up two draft picks for.
Revis doesn't need to like Greg Schiano, he just has to do his job -- and that he certainly is doing. Still, that doesn't mean that letting your complaints get out publicly is the prudent thing to do, especially so when Buccaneers are embroiled in controversy anyway.
