The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had two completely different game plans against the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. In the first game, they tried to play two-tight end football on offense and played mostly nickel on defense against the pass. Against the Saints, they tried to play three-receiver football on offense,
Luke Stocker was in on 100% of the plays in week one, but managed just 74% against the Saints. Kevin Ogletree was on the field for 66% of the snaps this week, which represents a slight uptick over week one. Erik Lorig managed just 15 snaps on the day, which is significantly less than I would have expected.
The most interesting data comes from the defense, though. Mason Foster had 63 snaps against the Jets, or 84% of the plays. He received just 34 snaps against the Saints, which was less than half of all defensive plays. The Bucs instead tried to counter the Saints with a lot of big dime: three safeties and three cornerbacks. That explains
Finally, Darrelle Revis appears to be completely healthy. The cornerback managed to play all but three defensive snaps, and had as many snaps as any cornerback on the team. Maybe now the Buccaneers can get back to using him properly.
If you want to know the full snap counts for the season, we have a page to keep track of those throughout the year.
