Gerald McCoy Injury: Buccaneers defensive tackle appears to be fine

Gerald McCoy appears to be fine after suffering a lower leg injury against the New Orleans Saints.

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

Gerald McCoy was down on the field with an apparent lower leg injury for a few minutes, but walked off under his own power and then came back on the field a couple of plays later. Later in the game he once again went to the sideline with an apparent ankle sprain, but once again returned a few plays later.

The Buccaneers can't afford to lose the defensive tackle this year, and he has struggled with biceps injuries in the past.

Luckily, the defensive tackle is still on the field, because this defense would really struggle to generate a pass rush without the disruptive three-technique. He has one sack of Drew Brees today, and is the motor that makes the entire defense go.

So far, the Buccaneers defense is holding up fairly well, with one sack, one interception and 10 points allowed. Playing predominantly zone coverage, the Bucs have struggled to cover Jimmy Graham, though. Graham took advantage of a blown coverage going for 56 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter.
