Buccaneers Roster Cuts: Rian Lindell wins kicking job, Derek Dimke presumably cut

The kicking competition for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been decided.

Timothy T. Ludwig-US PRESSWIRE

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Rian Lindell has won the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' kicking job, according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports. That presumably means the Bucs will cut Derek Dimke, who missed a field goal and an extra point in Thursday night's preseason game. Lindell has been perfect this preseason, even hitting a 50-yard field goal against the Redskins. At 36 years old he doesn't have the leg he used to have, however.

All of this drama was necessary because Connor Barth suffered an Achilles injury while playing in a charity basketball earlier this offseason. Then prospective replacement Lawrence Tynes was bothered by an ingrown toenail, and then contracted MRSA. And then his wife complained (perhaps rightly so) about the Bucs' treatment of him. They're trying to place Tynes on the non-football injury list, so clearly that door is shut.

Meanwhile, the Bucs have at least 17 more roster cuts to make today before 6 PM. Who's next?
