Buccaneers Injuries: Doug Martin practices, Carl Nicks has an infected blister and more

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are slowly getting more and more healthy, but they're still missing a few players.

Matt Stamey-US PRESSWIRE

Carl Nicks has an infected blister

The star offensive guard was scheduled to play against the New England Patriots, but developed a blister on his foot. The blister is not on his toe, which he'll struggle with for the rest of his life -- although that doesn't mean it wasn't caused by his injury. The blister apparently popped and got infected, which will keep him out for an undetermined amount of time. It's an uncommon injury, but it has to heal.

Schiano did say he could probably play in the season opener. If Nicks is out, Ted Larsen is likely to step in at left guard -- or Larsen could play center, with Jeremy Zuttah playing left guard.

Doug Martin, Davin Joseph, Darrelle Revis, Tiquan Underwood practiced

Doug Martin left the Patriots preseason game with a head injury, but passed his concussion tests and was back on the field today. Davin Joseph got through two team periods, which likely means he could suit up against the Miami Dolphins this week. Tiquan Underwood got back in practice too.

Darrelle Revis participated in practice, but Schiano noted that the Buccaneers don't need to see him in preseason. He'll play only if he wants to, and the Bucs clear him.

Cornerback Danny Gorrer's still out with a groin injury, though, while Erik Lorig and Chris Owusu were seen on the bikes at the start of practice by Rick Brown. Michael Smith, meanwhile, suffered a toe injury, which is why he only got two snaps against New England.
