Mark Dominik has told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could play Darrelle Revis in their third preseason game (via Rotoworld). The Buccaneers have consistently said that week one of the regular season is the target date for Revis to return, but the cornerback participated in live 7-on-7 work for the first time yesterday and has been progressing more quickly than the club initially expected.
The Buccaneers will face off against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, August 24 during week three of the preseason. The contest will take place in Miami.
If Revis does play in week three, he may be unlikely to take snaps during week four of the preseason, when starters are generally held out and backups and third-stringers are given the chance to stand out and earn a roster spot.
The Bucs have been forced to practice and scheme without Revis, and it will be interesting to see how the Buccaneers use the shutdown cornerback worth $16 million per year in their scheme.
