According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will sign running back/kick returner Matt Brown today. Brown had a reasonably productive career as a running back in four years at Temple, rushing for 2,647 yards and 23 touchdowns on 466 carries at a respectable 5.6 yards per carry. The Bucs may want him more as a kick returner, though.
Matt Brown signed with the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders last week, but not surpirisingly prefers to take a shot at the NFL.
Brown returned 83 kicks in his college career for 2,068 yards and two touchdowns at 24.9 average yards per kick return. He also had 45 punt returns for 403 yards over the past two seasons. Brown won 2012 Big East Special Teams Player of the Year in college, and was a 2012 All-Big East First Team player as a coaches' selection.
Brown will likely compete with Mike James, Brian Leonard and Michael Smith for a roster spot and may have a leg up due to his skills as a kick returner.
