Pete Prisco's NFL Top 100: Five Buccaneers make the list

It's the offseason, so everyone's making lists. Including the (in)famous Pete Prisco, and his top 100 has five Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the list. Gerald McCoy is the top Buc listed at number 30, while Darrelle Revis comes in at 35 -- and he's only that low because of uncertainty about his knee injury. Add in Carl Nicks at number 60, Vincent Jackson at 63 and Lavonte David at 98 and the Bucs are pretty well-represented.

In fact, I'd argue that Prisco erred in leaving Doug Martin on the list but putting six other running backs on the list. Doug Martin gained more yards from scrimmage than all but one of them: Adrian Peterson. But that's a bit of nitpicking.

All these accolades for the Buccaneers are intriguing, and they remind one of the late '90s Buccaneers. Starting in 1997, the Bucs dominated the Pro Bowl, especially on defense. Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Hardy Nickerson, Mike Alstott made annual Pro Bowl appearances. Simeon Rice and Ronde Barber would join them after Nickerson left, and all of that talent eventually led to a Super Bowl victory. With the amount of talent the Buccaneers have, it really feels like it's just a matter of time before they start winning playoff games, too.

Appearances can be deceiving, though. The 2011 Philadelphia Eagles were nicknamed the Dream Team and had six players appear on the preseason NFL Films Top 100 and on Pete Prisco's Top 100. The Eagles spun their wheels and got nowhere for two consecutive seasons, of course. Will the Buccaneers suffer the same fate, or will they finally get over the hump?
