Buccaneers work out four linebackers

In addition to signing a linebacker to the active roster yesterday, the Bucs brought in four additional linebackers for workouts yesterday

After officially putting Jonathan Casillas on injured reserve yesterday, the Bucs signed linebacker Danny Lansanah off the Jets' practice squad. Well, as per self-styled 'Ravens Insider' and all-round plugged-in dude Aaron Wilson, the team also worked out four additional linebackers:

It's worth pointing out that Lansanah, who is listed on the Bucs' depth chart as the backup to starting strongside linebacker Dekoda Watson, has primarily been an inside linebacker; three of the four linebackers the Bucs brought in yesterday are all true outside linebackers, with Chaney having been considered pre-draft to be able to play both middle and strongside linebacker.

Of the four, McCrath has been in the league longest, having been in the league since 2009, when the Titans drafted him in the fourth round. A part-time starter during his first two years in Tennessee, he played out the second half of his rookie contract as a back up, becoming a free agent last offseason.

Chaney was originally drafted in 2010 by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 220th pick - just three picks after the Bucs selected Watson. He played three seasons in Philly, taking over as starting middle linebacker in his second season before being moved outside in his final season with the team. He began 2013 with the Atlanta Falcons, making one appearance before being released in late October.

Albright signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2011, appearing in 30 games over his first two seasons with the team, with one start in 2012. He was placed on injured reserve with a back injury prior to the 2013 regular season, but was released with an injury settlement from the team. Presumably his back is sufficiently healed to resume playing.

Finally, Cole has accrued the least game time of the four, spending 2010 and most of 2011 on the Kansas City practice squad before being picked up by the Rams, appearing in four games for them in 2011 and every game in 2012, though he's yet to register his first start in the NFL. He spent training camp with the Browns but was released in late August.
