Buccaneers promote Matthew Masifilo to active roster

The Bucs have finally replaced Russell Shepard on the roster.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted defensive tackle Matthew Masifilo to the roster. The undrafted second-year player out of Stanford will take Russel Shepard's place on the roster, as he was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. Masifilo spent most of the offseason with the Bucs, and most of this season on their practice squad after spending a short period on their regular season roster last year, but not appearing in any games.

Masifilo probably fits best as a strongside defensive end or three-technique defensive tackle, given his relatively slight 6'3", 280 lbs. frame. At this point in the season he's little more than a temporary fill-in, though, and likely won't do much for the Bucs. The fact that he's managed to hang around for two years is at least a relatively good sign.
