Mason Foster Injury: Buccaneers linebacker out against Lions

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffer another hit to their defense.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without middle linebacker Mason Foster against the Detroit Lions. Foster suffered a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons on an accidental hit by teammate Dashon Goldson, who is suspended for Sunday's game against Detroit as well.

Greg Schiano said that the Bucs would replace Foster with a mix of players, including veteran Adam Hayward and rookie Ka'lial Glaud. With both Foster and Goldson out the Bucs will be severely limited against pass-heavy personnel groupings, as their nickel and dime packages take heavy hits in quality. Keith Tandy is expected to replace Goldson, but he isn't close to the same player while the team lacks depth at cornerback.

Rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks should suit up against the Lions after suffering a shoulder injury late last week, which should help in those situations, as should the fact that Detroit lacks depth at the receiver position. Nate Burleson is expected to make his return for the Lions after recovering from a pizza-induced broken arm.
