Despite losing once again, the Bucs have plenty of quality players. A few of them had true standout games yesterday, with Lavonte David and Vincent Jackson really providing the highlights. Even a loss provides some positives.
Lavonte David racked up a ridiculous 10 solo tackles, most of them in the first half, three of them going for a loss, and he added a key pass defense as well. David has been a real highlight this season and it's not too much to say that he looks like Derrick Brooks early in his career. He has a long way to go to match the future Hall of Famer's record, but he's off to an outstanding start.
Vincent Jackson had struggled a little this season, but he had a breakout game today as Glennon kept looking for him. He was targeted on a ridiculous 22 passes, but managed a solid 138 yards and two touchdowns. He had two drops early in the game, but most of the other incompletions were poorly thrown deep balls by Mike Glennon. The highlight was a 59-yard touchdown pass, which saw him make a one-handed grab on an underthrown ball in coverage and then sprint away for the team's first score.
Finally, we finally saw a running game from the Bucs. Doug Martin had struggled to get going all year, but he managed 47 yards on 11 carries until he was forced to leave the game with a shoulder injury. Mike James added a decent 45 yards on 14 carries afterwards. The Falcons defense has been pretty bad, but it's still good to see the Bucs' rushing offense get going.
