The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed safety Kelcie McCray off waivers one day after waiving safety Ahmad Black. McCray was a 2012 undrafted free agent for the Miami Dolphins and appeared in all four of Miami's games this season, but recorded no statistics in those games.
The Bucs have a serious depth problem at safety, as Keith Tandy and McCray are now their backups. Dashon Goldson and Mark Barron are outstanding starters, but the Bucs loved to run three safety sets with Ahmad Black prior to his release. With Tandy and McCray now being the third and fourth safeties on the team, the Buccaneers may have to remove the big dime package from their defense.
The Buccaneers currently have a bye week and are expected to make a few more roster moves before they play the Philadelphia Eagles next week. A new player at safety would not be out of the question in this case. The Bucs still had an open roster spot, so they did not need to release someone to get McCray on the roster.
