Buccaneers sign guard Patrick Omameh off 49ers practice squad

Another roster move for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed rookie offensive guard Patrick Omameh off the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. Omameh went undrafted this year after playing at Michigan in college and has been on the San Francisco practice squad for most of this season.

The fact that the Bucs are adding a guard likely means that we can rule out Carl Nicks for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Gabe Carimi should be able to fill in for Carl Nicks at left guard, although he has dealt with mono over the past two weeks, according to Greg Auman. That caused him to lose twenty pounds, apparently, although he's now gained back ten of those pounds. If Carimi can't go, Ted Larsen is likely to get the start at either guard or center, with Jeremy Zuttah playing the other position.

The Bucs still had an open roster spot after releasing Freeman last week, which they've now filled.
