Tampa Bay Buccaneers Roster Cuts: WR Ed Gant among casualties, Bowers to PUP

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have finally released their list of cuts to get down to 75 players, the roster limit enacted today. Only one real surprise can be counted among these cuts, and that is 2011 preseason star wide receiver Ed Gant, who has failed to actually do anything this offseason or preseason. That goes to show what preseason performances are worth. There are no other surprises among these cuts, as most players hadn't contributed much, if at all. The Bucs released two surplus specialists, P Eric Guthrie and LS Andrew DePaola, but they did decide to keep K Kai Forbath for now, for some weird reason.

The full list of cuts:

RB De'Anthony Curtis, LS Andrew DePaola, WR Greg Ellingson, WR Ed Gant, TE Collin Franklin, P Eric Guthrie, T Mike Ingersoll, LB Brian Smith, S Tramain Thomas, CB Marquese Wheaton.

In addition, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved G Davin Joseph to injured reserve and DE Da'Quan Bowers to the Physically Unable To Perform list to get the roster down to 75 players. Joseph is out for the season with a torn patellar tendon, while Da'Quan Bowers tore his Achilles tendon in May, which will likely 'cause him to miss most or all of the season. He is ineligible to play for the first six weeks of the regular season now that he's on PUP.

The Bucs will have to reduce the roster by another 22 players by Friday to get to the 53-man regular season roster.
