I was amazed and impressed by Coach Schiano's decision to sign Eric LeGrand. And it's made me think that we, as fans (not just of the Bucs, but of football), need to give something back. So this is my idea, which I've been pushing hard for today:
The Bucs should sell #52 LeGrand jerseys and work with the NFL and Nike/Reebok to see that all profits from their sale go to a charity such as the National Spinal Cord Injury Association or the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, or a charity of Mr. LeGrand's choice.
Now I'm just one voice. But there are a lot us out there. If enough of us get behind the idea, management will act. So, please- if you love the signing and like this idea, please visit the "Contact Us" page at Buccaneers.com, and let them know you like this idea. If you'd rather not put it in your own words, feel free to copy and paste this:
Hi. I want the Bucs to market a #52 Eric LeGrand jersey in honor of his courageous battle against his spinal injury. I hope that the Bucs will work with the NFL and Nike/Reebok to see that all profits from the sale of such a jersey will go to a charity such as the National Spinal Cord Injury Association or the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, or a charity of Mr. LeGrand's choice.
One voice? Easily shrugged off. Thousands of voices? We can turn our own approval of Coach Schiano's choice into a new revenue stream for a very worthy cause.
