The Top 10 Draft Busts in Buccaneers History - #6

The past two days we've had disappointing, highly drafted linebackers in these spots - and this year it continues. I can't emphasize enough how rubbish the Bucs have been at drafting defensive ends after their very first pick. It's really amazing how often they've picked a defensive end in the top 10 and whiffed completely. So today the bust is Keith McCants. Another fourth overall selection, another 12 sacks in 3 years before being cut. At least his two 5-sack years were better than Stylez' 4.5-sacks last season. McCants was drafted as a linebacker but couldn't hack it in the NFL and was converted to defensive end for his second season. 2 years of unremarkable play as a defensive end led to his being cut in 1992 training camp.

3 years on the roster, 12 sacks. That's unacceptable for a fourth overall pick, and Keith McCants is one of the greatest busts in Buccaneers history, but it doesn't make him a worse pick than Gaines Adams or Eric Curry. What puts McCants' selection over those two is that he came off major knee surgery and the team doctor advised the Bucs not to draft him. The Bucs did anyway, and another Buccaneers bust was born.

The list so far:

10. Rod Jones

9. Reidel Anthony

8. Gaines Adams

7. Eric Curry

6. Keith McCants
