The Top 10 Draft Busts in Buccaneers History - #1

The biggest draft bust in Buccaneers history is a terribly easy choice. Almost certainly this pick was the worst draft pick any NFL team ever made. And it's not because the player was given a huge contract and never lived up to it. It's because this player refused to ever even sign or play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Buccaneers knew this before they drafted him. This player, of course, was called Bo Jackson.

Jackson had been a two-sport athlete at Auburn and loved baseball. So when the Bucs brought him in for a team visit that caused him to lose his remaining baseball eligibility, Bo Jackson was understandably pissed off. The Bucs were also pitifully bad at the time, and Hugh Culverhouse was perhaps the worst owner in the NFL, so it was understandable when a two-sport athlete decided to give that other sport a try. When players on the team trying to recruit you tell you to get away from the place, the decision really isn't all that hard. So the Bucs lost a first overall pick because they couldn't get him to sign.

And to make matters worse, the Raiders drafted him the following year and did get him to sign. Bo Jackson would remain a two-sport star for the rest of his football career, only moving to football after the baseball season had ended. But when he was on the field he was an electrifying player, until he destroyed his hip in a game, which also severely shortened his excellent baseball career. Bo Jackson exemplifies the terrible incompetence of the Bucs of that era, and is the only real choice for worst Buccaneer Draft Bust in history.
