The Top 10 Draft Busts in Buccaneers History - #5

After three straight pass rushers in Gaines Adams, Eric Curry and Keith McCants we move to the other side of the line with offensive tackle Charles McRae. He started out as a defensive lineman for Tennessee but converted to Offensive Tackle and earned All-SEC and Academic All-SEC honors. His stellar college credits got him drafted 7th overall, which was about 200 spots too high. Charles McRae was a horrible tackle who started 4 games on the right in his first season, opposite the much better Paul Gruber. He also managed to hold on to his job for the 1992 season, because teams don't like benching high draft picks. But that's exactly what they did in 1993. He was then moved to left guard, but couldn't succeed there either and was released after the 1995 season. Charles McRae was supposed to be a great offensive tackle who would turn the Bucs offensive line into a strength along with Paul Gruber. Instead he was a colossal bust who couldn't even succeed as a guard, let alone as a tackle.

The list so far:

10. Rod Jones

9. Reidel Anthony

8. Gaines Adams

7. Eric Curry

6. Keith McCants

5. Charles McRae
