ON THIS DAY- 9/11/ 1980 The first Bucs game on Monday Night Football

Sort of.

It was Thursday Night special edition Monday Night Football! And ABC and perhaps others helped buy out all the tickets so the bay area could see its team appear on MNF for the very first time against the same team that eliminated them a year earlier in the NFC Championship game. 

The game went the same way almost like a script, except the Bucs managed a FG before the half because of a crucial Rams penalty that gave Garo Yepremian 5 yards closer to kick, which he needed as the ball hit the crossbar and bounced it!

The Rams actually outplayed the Bucs, but couldnt put them away. Then in the end, just when it looked like all was over...

Yes Its old. Yes Its not anything you probably remember. But this is what made Doug WIlliams such a special QB for the Bucs, and this is what the crowds were like back then, and the enthusiasm continues still to this day!
