Coming off another injury riddled season, there was speculation that Carnell "Cadillac" Williams would miss training camp and start the year on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. As a noted Cadillac fan, those rumors put me in a foul mood. But according to an interview by Buccaneers.com with Head Coach Raheem Morris, Cadillac will be ready to go in training camp.
That's good news for Cadillac fans and Bucs fans alike. Any competition is good competition and depth at Running Back is a much needed trait of a team. We've seen an injury to the starter at that position over the last 3 or 4 season, so adding a former Rookie of the Year into the mix will be a good thing for all involved. Derrick Ward is ramping up for his Bucs debut, Earnest Graham is coming off an ankle injury, Clifton Smith is fighting a case of fumble-itis and Cadillac is now half machine, half man. Each of these guys can make an impact to the game, and I'm just glad to hear that Cadillac has an opportunity to come back. Love him or hate him, two freak injuries can't keep him down, and you have to respect that.
The job should shape up with Ward and Graham splitting #1 reps, Clifton becoming the scat back and Cadillac will be the "Ahmad Bradshaw" this year, to use the Giants running game from last year as an example. Looks like the stable (I refuse to succumb to the Cadillac jokes and say garage) is full of quality backs this year, now let's hope we've seen the lat of the running back injuries.
