Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mini-Camp Day Three

The Bucs finished their first three day voluntary Mini-Camp of the off-season this morning. Here’s what we’ve gathered thus far:

  • RB Carnell Williams on when he might possibly return to action:
  • "Right now, I'm just taking it day by day, my whole objective is to be ready for training camp." - Cadillac Williams projects the day he will return to action per the St. Pete Times

I hope at the very least Cadillac can work his way into a couple Pre-Season games so he work on shaking that rust out in meaningless games. You have to figure this is Caddy’s final shot with the Bucs. It’s a contract year so I would think so, another injury could. . . Knock on wood everybody… Get your wives, girlfriends, husbands, and boyfriends too, Carnell is going to need it.

  • QB Luke McCown on all of the Jay Cutler trade talk:
  • "That's just elevator music. I mean, you learn that it's in the background, you hear it, you don't pay attention to it. It doesn't affect you. It can't affect your mood, it can't affect your preparation. That's part of being a professional. It's just that tunnel (vision), you have to have it. And you've just got to love what you do so much that it doesn't matter." - QB Luke McCown on the Jay Cutler trade talk per the St. Pete Times

Luke continues to say the right things. It would be a shame if he didn’t get the chance to start now that he is sooo close. By the way, there’s a report on ESPN.com that the Broncos could trade Cutler by Friday. The supposed front runners to land him are the Bucs and Redskins, emphasis being on the Redskins…

  • Missing in Action: Kellen Winslow did not participate in voluntary camp for a second day in a row. No word on whether he attended again despite not participating. Jeff Faine did not make it to camp at all while nursing his sore back. He’s expected to make a full recovery by OTA’s next month. Sean Mahan and Jeremy Zuttah took reps at center in Faine’s absence. Donald Penn having not shown up today, has officially missed the team’s entire first voluntary mini-camp, not good (for him). LB Geno Hayes missed practice yesterday due to his knee, no word on whether he participated today. CB Ronde Barber sat out today as well.
  • Offensive Coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski on the clean slate for his players:
  • "One of the things that I’m going to do is make sure I don’t have any preconceived notions on what everybody else thinks. You get that question about, ‘They said, ’Well, who is ‘they?’ I’m more about what I see, what we can do with them, what we can do to put all these guys in the best possible positions to make a play. I think that’s coaching." – Coach Jags per the St. Pete Times

You have to think statements like that really rejuvenate the players that are currently in camp. If you feel you were overlooked in the past by the previous staff you now have an opportunity to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Hopefully our guys realize that and take advantage of it.

  • Raheem Morris reiterated that he plans on adding a fourth Quarterback and that player would be added prior to May’s OTA’s… We figured this much though (aka the Draft).
  • Jermaine Phillips didn’t do anything to stump his transition into becoming a Linebacker:
  • "He stood out every day he was here, he's overly athletic, but it's more what he did in the running game, how he saw it and how he viewed it. Of course, he made some mistakes. We all do. But he's starting to get a feel for it. He's starting to get used to it. Jermaine's very critical of himself, and that's the key thing. He wants to be the best." - Head Coach Raheem Morris per the Pewter Report

Like we’ve said, it’s probably not the ideal situation, but it’s going to be an intriguing position switch to monitor throughout the off-season.
