Raheem Morris: Contract length, Senior Bowl, Offensive Coordinator Candidates

New, comments

The Bucs were interested in the Jets Offensive Coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer, but he has decided to stay with Rex Ryan and the Jets. Plus he was under contract so it's not like the Bucs had much of a shot. Double Plus, he had a ton of questionable play calls last season and so I'm not sorry to see him scratched off the list despite Brett Favre's successes offensively last season (minus the int's).

The Bucs are set to interview Cincinnati Bengals Quarterbacks Coach, Ken Zampese, next week. He's been with the Bengals for six years and has been instrumental in developing QB Carson Palmer. With the Bucs going after Jeremy Bates and Ken Zampese you can sort of see a theme in seeking Coaches who have successful experience grooming young Quarterbacks. The Bucs have a young QB in Josh Johnson on their roster. Earlier this week Mark Dominik alluded to the Bucs having a plan for the Quarterback position. Could they draft a QB in the coming months? Maybe they'll hand the ball to Johnson? Stay tuned...

Bucs are set to interview Scott Linehan tomorrow (Wednesday)...

You know how I asked if you were willing to give new Head Coach Raheem Morris five years of your life? Well it turns out you only need to forfeit four years of your life. How much did he get? You'll just have to ask Raheem himself or wait for it to leak out.

Morris is a busy man: Today he jumped a flight to Alabama to catch the Senior Bowl. Prior to that he released six members of Gruden's existing Coaching Staff. And its been written that he's contacted the following guys for his vacant offensive coordinator position:

Scott Linehan (signed with Lions)
Chan Gailey (Chiefs Offensive Coordinator)
Rob Chudzinsk (signed as Chargers Tight Ends Coach)
Jeremy Bates (signed on to be an Assistant Coach with USC).
Greg Olson (Bucs current Quarterbacks Coach)
Ken Zampese (Bengals Quarterbacks Coach)
Brian Schottenheimer (Remains with Jets)

It would be cool if the Bucs could wrestle Stanford Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, from the college ranks to take over as Offensive Coordinator. He has a history with Rookie QB Josh Johnson and the two had great success together. Wishful thinking, i know.

Two of those candidates are truly offensive and the other candidate recently stunk up the joint after seeing ridiculous success in Minnesota.

By the way, how fast is this organization moving? In case you missed it, the Bucs fired their Head Coach (Jon Gruden) and General Manager (Bruce Allen) and hired a Head Coach (Raheem Morris) and General Manager (Mark Dominik) all in the same weekend. Do what you do...

Hat tip to USFRaysFan for the Bates info, i think.
