On the heels of the St. Pete Times reporting that WR Antonio Bryant had won a starting job opposite WR Joey Galloway, i thought to myself, let me look at our depth chart. And so I did and let me tell you there are a couple surprises:

Most importantly at the back-up Quarterback position. QB Brian Griese looked like the better of the two QB's this Pre-Season, but QB Luke McCown some how nudged him out as the back-up to QB Jeff Garcia. I mean, thats pretty interesting, I thought to myself maybe they havent updated the depth chart, but the newly acquired Sean Mahan is on there backing up C Jeff Faine so it must be the latest and greatest (although Bryant is still the #3).
Another slightly interesting issue was that of TE John Gilmore edging out TE Ben Troupe to be the back-up to Alex Smith. Granted Troupe was injured just about all of the Pre-Season, but he was the jewel Tight End signing of the off-season...
Another thing I thought was odd was DE Greg White backing up Kevin Carter. I knew he wasnt starting, but i thought he had been moved back over to the right side of the line. Jimmy Wilkerson is currently slated to back-up Gaines Adams.. hmm
And lastly, Dexter Jackson (DJax) is listed as the sole possessor of Kick & Punt Returning duties. I'm about as ecstatic as it gets to see that, but who will line-up with DJax to return kickoffs? Will he man up by himself? If not, I'd like to see fellow Rookie CB Aqib Talib back there with DJax. If our White Tiger can do it, why not Talib? He returned punts at Kansas, its the same concept. How sweet would that be to see DJax and Talib returning kicks, talk about picking your poison.
