Since Buc 'Ems inception to Bucs Blogging we've had the (up-above) Countdown on our Sidebar. Can you believe it took our Franchise 31 years to record a Kickoff for a Touchdown!?!? You just had to know it would be an obscure player and an unpredictable game in which the feat would be accomplished. Michael Spurlock is that obscure player who ran 90 yards for the Record Books. Who, you might ask? He was signed as a Free Agent during the season to fill the void that was left when KR Mark Jones tore his patellar tendon. Spurlock played college ball at Ole Miss. That's about all I can tell you about him. Here's Spurlock's take on the play:
"It was a middle-left return, and for some reason, everybody from Atlanta just played over. "We got our blocks, and I thought, ‘Wow, this is wide open.’ I hit [the hole], and I saw the guy running after me. I thought, ‘You never know how close you’re going to get to this again. Just take your opportunity and run with it.' "I thought, ‘There’s no way he can catch me. I have to get to the end zone." - Buccaneers.com
Congrats Mike, this Franchise was LONG OVERDUE!!!
