Tampa Bay Buccaneers trade for RB Bennett ...

...UPDATE...

The Bucs gave up undisclosed picks in 2008 and 2009 based on performance criteria in exchange for running back Michael Bennett, according to the Chiefs website. - Bucs Beat .... I hope for draft picks sake, that they play the guy. Sorry Earnest

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired another RB today in Veteran Michael Bennett from the Kansas City Chiefs for an undisclosed bounty reports ESPN.com. The Bucs just beat todays 4pm TRADE DEADLINE. Bennett was a Pro Bowler back in 2002 for the Purple People Eaters aka the Minnesota Vikings, with 1,296 yards from scrimmage.

The newly acquired Bennett had the following to say about the trade:

"It [the trade] really caught me off guard, I heard the speculation for the past few days, but nobody from the Chiefs said anything to me, so I guessed it wasn't going to happen. I was wrong, its a business. Its just one of those things that happen"

Bennett talks like its a drag to move from a .500 ball club as a backup with an up hill battle with Denver and San Diego in the same division, to come over to a winning ball club with a NFC South Division Championship in realistic grasps, not to mention a starting job to be had.

I don't necessarily agree with the move to bring in another RB, but I see where GM Bruce Allen is coming from in terms of job security and the real possibility that the NFC South is anyones to take this season.
