The NFC South....

Do you guys think we can take the division this year? I believe we have a good chance but, Atlanta is looking to make up for last years NFC championship and are going to be Super Bowl hungry. and Sean Payton is back to coach the Saints so thats a big bag of mystery! Lastly we have the Panthers....I just cant see them doing it. they need someone else to throw to besides Steve Smith and Greg Olson. I'll leave a poll at the bottom and you can answer and if you dont think its going to be the Bucs tell which of the other three you think it will be.

Glennon vs Freeman: Is it me?

I don't see the big concern with Coach Schiano saying Glennon has a shot at winning the starting QB position. Our current starter is NOT the leader of the team. He's the starter at his position. That's it. Looking at the roster the previous two years, there was no competition for him whatsoever. And he still hasn't taken the title as the leader of the team though he's at the head of the offense. As the starting QB, Freeman had one good season and was anointed the "Franchise QB" title and the coaching staff put the responsibility/weight/burden of carrying the team on his shoulders and it proved too much. Coach Schiano has seen him up close and personal for a full season and apparently hasn't been won over.

The previous coach was given 3 years to prove himself with a less talented roster. There's no way any coach wouldn't explore every option to win when he realistically looks at how short of a window he has to become successful. At let's be completely honest here...Freeman isn't playing this year for a bigger contract; he's playing for an opportunity to stay employed in Tampa. That's important to recognize. He's a few bad games away from being that guy that just "flashed" top level talent.Freeman, in my honest opinion, has the first 7 games of the season to make a big impact on Schiano and the League. And they don't all have to result in Wins, but he has to put on the performances of his career to earn the right to continue playing as the starter for the BUCS. I can't see Coach Schiano taking the risk of having his 2nd year as Head Coach being marred by a QB that should be winning, but isn't. I think he'd take the chance on his guy instead and that would at least give him the leeway of the GM and owners by Glennon's being a rookie as opposed to Freeman, who would be looked at as a struggling vet.

The Buccaneers have to win this season. Period. There has to be a Playoff push. For Freeman, just getting to Playoffs may not even be enough(again..this is my opinion). The Freeman-led BUCs may need to get past the Wild Card to keep him in the big contract talks. If he's expected to be paid like a "Franchise QB", the level at which he ends this season has to be indicative of where the Franchise can be expected to be each year.

If Glennon finds his way on the field this season, he doesn't have to prove himself as "elite" or a "Franchise QB". He just has to be a game manager that doesn't literally throw away games and keep himself composed. He's a rookie. He's expected to make rookie mistakes. But he won't be allowed to be horrible or incompetent. The BUCS fans won't allow it. They'll be calling for the drafting a much more highly touted QB next year if Glennon fails to remain poised as a rookie if/when he gets the opportunity to play this season.

I've no clue what rookie QB, Mike Glennon, is capable of during this football season. Funny/Sad thing is: I've no clue what Freeman, the current starter, is capable of this upcoming season.

Anyone know how long it will take to get to the Tampa airport after a game? Could we make it for a 6:45 departure from Tampa airport after a 1:00 start game? It's the San Fran game on December 15. Just wondering if anyone out there has flown out straight after a game, I know the airport is close by but with traffic and people leaving not sure if we will make it out...thx any advice is appreciated.

Dan Marino...

Would he have won A Superbowl for the Bucs? Looking back now and seeing his legacy overshadowed by lesser quarterbacks, is disappointing, even to a Bucs fan. I'm confident that in some parallel universe, him and Dungy won a couple championships together. To have lived in a land of such jubilee, would've been a beautiful thing. Ultimately, I think he got bad advice from those worried about his image in a Yucs uniform.

I have to ride to Wal-Mart and get a few spare parts to repair my time machine. When I do, any advice for the Marino of 99?

Revamped Secondary

Take some time to read this article real quick;

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000169108/article/tampa-bay-buccaneers-ready-to-contend-with-remade-secondary

It gets me SUPER EXCITED for this season. If Akeem Spence can be a mauler and we can still stop the run this year, as we did last, our almost brand new secondary will take us to the playoffs and beyond! The O-Line needs to pave the way for Dougie and keep Freeman upright..come on! Penn,Joseph,Zuttuh, Nicks. How are we not seeing better production from this offense! Lets just pray for no major injuries this year.

Biggest division and non divisional rival!

So we all know we have three main rivals in the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and the Carolina Panthers. But witch of the three do you think is our Biggest rival. Me personally I get the most excited when I see a big W against the falcons because of how much talent they have on the offensive side of the ball. There is going to be a poll for you all to decide but in the description i want you guys to give me a reason why!

Secondly outside of our division who do you really just hate and want the bucs to beat it can be for any reason. weather you live in a state outside of florida and just want to shut up the home state fans or just have a burning passion against that team. please tell the team you chose and a brief reason why!

Barber the Greatest Buc Ever?

A couple years ago I sat next to Steven Jackson (then with the Rams) at a bar in Hollywood. We struck up a conversation about football and life over a few beers. I told him I was from Tampa and I offered him a drink on me if he’d go easy on us next time the Bucs and Rams met on the field (He’d punished us the season before – although we got the W). He was a laid back dude and happy to answer my annoying fan-boy questions – of which I had many. One answer sticks out though. When I asked which Buccaneer defender hit him the hardest, he said without hesitating, Ronde Barber.

I always new Ronde was a sure tackler and didn’t shy away from taking on big backs, but we had some mean linebackers and defensive linemen on the team that year who could lay some wood, so I was a little surprised to hear that our smallish slot corner was our biggest hitter. Ronde was a Buc-fan favorite because he always seem to come up with the game-changing play when we needed it - the sack to stop a drive, the turnover to seal a win - yet was not a flashy NFL superstar. He never got the hype of a Neon, Revis, Reed or Woodson, but he got the respect of his peers. Players and coaches around the league understand the true greatness of Barber maybe even more-so than his fans. He had a particular skill set that made him a force for the opposition to reckon with. I think history will be very kind to Barber, and as his career grows smaller in the rear view of our collective minds, his legacy will grow even larger. Ronde played hard, smart and fast. He was a leader. He was a hard worker. He was an incredible role model on and off the field. He is a Hall of Fame football player.

He may be the greatest Buccaneer of all time.

I was bored so I photoshopped my own "No Fly Zone" picture

I know a lot of us are optimistic about our much improved secondary so I messed around with photoshop to make a way too early to be excited Bucs Nation "No Fly Zone" picture.

I'm definitely still amateur status but let me know if you have any comments / changes / ideas you would make. I added Eric Wright at the last second and I photoshopped an old Blount jersey onto the Johnthan Banks picture the Bucs used when they drafted him.

Ronde Barber finally making his decision!

All buc fans have been waiting for this moment and it has finally came. Per J.P Peterson it seems that Ronde Barber will be making his decision this week. His decision was made last week but with all of the Warren Sapp stuff going on he decided to wait one more week in respect to Sapp (Which he didn't attend the ceremony).

My personal opinion in regards to Ronde Barber's return is that he needs to come back for his final year. He will be a great leader/coach/role model in the locker room. Also, the most important thing that he will play a part this year is DEPTH! Unfortunately Tampa Bay has been really unlucky every year with all of the injuries that occur and having Ronde as depth would be great. Eric Wright had nagging injuries all throughout the year so this would be great move for the organization.

Hearing Ronde through many interviews throughout these years you can really see how smart of man he is and how he understands the current market in the NFL. Why am I saying this? Well I am hoping that not only will Ronde take less minutes in the rotation (granite that know body gets hurt) but also take less money. I know Tampa has the money to pay him but I doubt that the contract will be really that high due to these outcomes. Brian Urlacher was an outstanding player for the Chicago Bears but his talent has really reduced and due to the huge pay cut he decided to part ways from the organization. I'm crossing my fingers that Ronde Barber will take his last shot at the title with all of the new talent!

 GO BUCS!

The Bucs formula has been completed.

There is no reason to think of what super star free agent the Bucs could grab next year. It's not going to happen. There won't be any cap space to add another piece to the puzzle. The puzzle is done. The pieces are in place to win now. It would be a shame if the Bucs don't make the playoffs this year. If that doesn't happen. There will be a price to pay. The price would be a number of pink slips going out.

Greg Schiano now has a team that coaches would drool for. Every position is accounted for, and the only thing to argue about is if Revis' knee is healthy and do the Bucs have enough depth. I'm not worried about Freeman. The Bucs defense was awful last season. A passer that throws for over 4000 yards 27 TDs and 17 ints. Any fan would praise that if the defense didn't let up so many points. The losses were blamed on Josh. That's ridiculous in my opinion. Freeman has some problems, but with a better defense. It should make him look better, and not feel the pressure of coming from behind every game.

This is the first time I can say this in a long while. The success of the Buccaneers rests more on the game plan than the players. The Bucs have the players, but do they have the coaching staff to push them over the edge? The cap money is basically gone. The team is formed. This will be your team for the next few years. Hopefully the formula has worked and we see something special. Time will tell. I'm optimistic.

Plus 1

Does anyone here use Google+ ? I saw that there was a Bucs Nation profile, but not a community. I actually prefer Google+ over Facebook. I do follow the Facebook posts as well, but it's somehow become annoying with the many ass mites that are there. On Google+ the followers of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the fewest by far. That shouldn't be. There are far too many passionate and opinionated BUCS fans to have such a poor showing on any major platform or site. If there's a way to share posts from BUCS Nation to Google+ or start a Community there, I'd like to know of it. Also, it just seems a bit easier to share different kinds of media.

As an avid follower of this site and all things BUS related, I'd like to thank Sander and all other contributors to BUCS Nation. This has become my go to site for true fan oriented opinions and analysis. Though I rarely agree with every single one of anyone's opinions, I found that this very site offers the most in terms of diversity and overall intellect. The occasional pessimist and over-the-top optimistic types haven't deterred me like some other "Fan" sites have.

Let's see if we can get Google+ as an option to share posts along with the Facebook and Twitter links.

Thanks, BUCS Fans. Looking forward to telling Agreeing With and/or Shunning You and You're F*ckin' Crazy Ideas in the near future.

"Whoooooooo! Darrelle Reeeeevviiiiiiiiiiiss!!!"
