Who will win the AFC West?

Hello and Welcome to the 5th installment of “The Nostradamus effect” and for this division we go to the AFC West since we play them this year. The AFC West last year was a very weak division and may not necessarily wow anyone this year. The AFC West as you know is home to the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers. These teams have quite a bit of history and some very great football moments have come out of this division, and for old school Bucs fans you can possibly remember when we were once part of this division albeit one year only. So let’s begin with the predictions shall we. Hit the jump to see what they are.

Schiano - Not buying it

So by now we've all heard that Kellen Winslow was traded for a paltry 6th/7th round pick.

Today I read an interesting article that quoted Schiano as saying the trade wasn't about sending a message to the rest of the team. "The only message I want to address is we need to be the best football team we can be."

And that's where he loses me. If this is exclusively about improving talent on the roster, you're not going to find many people saying that Clark and a 7th rounder are better than Winslow. If injuries we're a concern, they may be a bigger concern with Clark.

But we all knew that. What's really bugging me is this: If we wanted to improve our roster, why not just keep Winslow and sign Clark? The cap room's certainly there for Clark's $2.7 mllion, which would probably be a lot lower, it seems like we were desperate to sign the only tight end left on the market and threw enough money at him that he couldn't say no. The guy couldn't get a job with the Pats, or even with Manning and the Broncos. We we're the only team that wanted him. It's strongly possible he would've bounced around working out for other teams, ultimately signing for half that, or even the league minimum.

I've long been a fan of offensive packages that include two recieving tight ends. Gronk and Hernandez of the Pats are a great example. It's not like Eric Lorig is an impact player anyway, taking him off the feild and putting in Clark in addition to Winslow could probably open up the run as much or more than the pass. We'd also have another red zone thread. Just like in a great wide reciever tandem, in a tight end tandem they make eachother better. Few teams have the ability to cover two recieving tight ends at once without putting in a nickel back that leaves the run open, or bringing down a safety that leaves the deep ball open. Do you think Vincent Jackson would have been so successful as a 'deep threat' without the underneath coverage focused on Antonio Gates? Don't be suprised if there's a dropoff in VJ's stats and it's no fault of Freeman's.

Would it be that hard to get Drake Dunsmore on the practice squad, and carry Clark, Winslow, and Stocker? Actually, Dunsmore plays some fullback too, so he could make the regular season roster because of his versatility. Currently, the situation at tight end looks grim. We have an injury ridden possible has-been, a developing kid with a low ceiling (sorry, I just don't think Stocker has the athletic ability to ever more than above average), and a kid who, like last year's 7th round tight end, might not even make the roster.

Had we both of them, I could see it as Schiano said, "the best football team we can be." Another weapon for Freeman and another (great, underrated) wrinkle for the offense. With the current move, I just don't see it as the best option that was available, and that makes the decision and Schiano's explanation a bit shady.

I mean honestly, there's no reason not to keep em both.

Poll
Which combination of TE's do you think makes the bucs the best team they can be? (If Dunsmore doesn't make the team, assume he's replaced with another UFA or waiver wire pickup)

Who will win the NFC North?

Well with the 4th installment of "the Nostradamus effect" I left the NFC North last for a reason. Many of you may remember when we resided in that division prior to 2002 back when it was called the NFC Central. This division is home to the most storied franchises in football, and can say I honestly miss it. Chicago games in the old sombrero were awesome, Green Bay as well, Detroit was a threat because Barry Sanders seemed to always have his best games against us, Minnesota games were always fun to watch our defense fight it out with their offense. Well enough of memory lane. Hit the jump to see the individual team breakdowns and predictions.

Anyone hear about the $133K lawsuit against Kellen Winslow?

Credit goes to: http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/dish/201205/lawsuit-nfl-star-casued-over-100k-damage-rental-home

He was a "soldier" at the University of Miami, a bad motorcycle rider for the Cleveland Browns, and he was allegedly a rental home wrecker with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That is, if you are to believe a lawsuit made by a San Diego-area landlord against veteran tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr.

Winslow, 28, is accused of destroying a $2 million home he rented for six months last year, leaving it smelling like the nearby San Diego Zoo. High-end Persian rugs and carpeting were stained with dog urine and littered with dog feces, according to the lawsuit, via the San Diego Union-Tribune. The home was "overpowered" was a putrid stench of animal waste.

The home's owners, Ahmad and Nona Zarei are seeking $133,000 in damages done to the walls, floors and furniture in addition to the rugs. The suit claims "numerous holes" were punctured in the master bedroom walls. In addition, cigarette and cigar burn holes marked up the outdoor furniture.

Winslow's attorney has run to his client's defense, calling the claims "bogus" and a "shakedown of a professional athlete."

"They want to portray it as though Kellen Winslow had a fraternity of football friends partying," Brian Watkins, Winslow's legal representative, said.

"But the house was rented for his wife, who was pregnant. She was living there with her mother and a housekeeper. There was no partying going on. Kellen was rarely even there."

In any event, a lawyer for the homeowners claims to have pictures documenting the damage done by someone during Winslow's $9,000 a month rental.

He was traded from the Bucs to the Seattle Seahawks this week.

Behind The Scenes at One Buc Place

Tonight the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held a VIP party at One Buc Place. Luckily, I was invited and jumped at the chance to see the facilities and meet Coach Schiano. He is as advertised. He spoke about the culture change taking place here in Tampa. He stressed accountability and leadership. After speaking he welcomed questions. The first question asked was "Why did you get rid of our #1 receiving threat?" He answered the question as PC as he could from a high level. He basically said he thinks the move makes the team better, even though it may not seem like it now. After he answered this question I started clapping...However, I noticed I was the only one clapping...he looked at me at said "Thanks"...

Here is a clip of him speaking about the NFL draft and Mark Barron during the party.

Schiano talks about Mark Barron.

I spoke to him later and told him that I loved what he is doing here in Tampa. I told him that I loved the Eric Legrand signing and I also agreed with him about Winslow. He thanked me and said "Ya gotta do what ya gotta do". I can't wait to see how he turns this team around. Great character man that demands accountability and discipline.

If you're interested in seeing photos touring One Buc Place...make the jump.

Who will win the NFC West?

Part 3 to the Nostradamus effect is here, this version will be focusing on the NFC west. This division is home to the SF 49’ers, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams. Based on last year’s numbers this was the weakest division in the NFC. We all know how the teams ended and of course many were shocked by the 49’ers, leaving some to wonder can the Bucs turn around the franchise with a new coach like SF did? Well we shall see soon enough.

How Well Are the Bucs Protecting Their Players' Health?

Following a 4-12 record last season—the fifth-worst in the league—Tampa Bay Bucs fans are hopeful for a better season. The team decided to go in a different direction and replace coach Raheem Morris with Greg Schiano, the former coach at Rutgers University. It’s a new beginning for the team, but the injury situation is keeping fans from getting too excited this season.

The topic of injuries in Tampa Bay can be a sore spot, no pun intended. It’s been a negative trend taking place in the organization over the last few seasons with guys going out with serious injuries and missing huge chunks of time. The injuries related to football have been under a microscope lately.

The Tampa Bay area is high on something.

And it's not meth believe it or not. It's paper! The Tampa Bay area is all high on this so called paper. We are super bowl bound!!! (on paper). Last time I checked. We didn't have people running on the field throwing paper at each other. (Band-Aid would make alot of money though. The paper cuts would be infinite)

I'm so sick of this paper, paper, paper talk. I feel like 1 of 2 things. 1) It's an excuse to lose another season. I can see myself saying. "Hey. We looked good on paper. Maybe it's Mark or coaching staff issues". 2) It be dem injuries man. A great excuse for any team. Except ours. Players are on the the chopping block this year because of injuries. It's unacceptable for Gerald or Price to go down again. Well I guess it's acceptable. But I have a feeling the coaching staff won't accept it.

The paper on the Bucs aren't swaying annalists either. Their may be a few that say this team will bounce back. But if you really look at it. The Bucs are the herpes of the league. We do good sometimes. But we seem to keep breaking out with the gift that keeps on giving.

I guess what I'm saying is. Get off the paper, and get in the stands. Fans win games. Home field wins games. The fans are the Valtrex of this team. Go Bucs

Btw. I'm always drunk when I write these fan posts. So feel free to make fun of me.

Who will win the NFC East?

Well welcome to the 2nd installment of the mildly popular Nostradamus effect. The division is of course the NFC East home of the SB champs NY Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. I chose this division since we play them this year. We play 3 of them in the first few weeks in back to back away games vs. NYG and DAL, capped off by a Home game against WASH. No wonder we got a bye week right after. Then of course we host PHI later in the year at home (looking forward to that one especially given our history during our SB era. So with that being said let’s get started.
