If you are an NFL fan of any team, and you don't think that having a quality punter is important, talk to a Bucs fan. Better yet, talk to them and bring up the names Michael Koenen and Jacob Schum. See their reaction..remember it...and don't ever bring those names up again.

Abysmal punting has been a staple here in Tampa for a few years. We thought we fixed it after Koenen ended up being Mark Dominik's prized free-agent find. But that did not last long. It's almost like the guy forgot how to punt or something. Gone were the days of 55 yard bombs, and replaced by the days of 30 yard shanks and 25 yard failures. And if you think Schum was any better...don't think it, he wasn't. We will save you the brain cramp.

When the Bucs signed Bryan Anger away from the Jaguars last summer, we kind of breathed a sigh of relief. Here was a guy who was consistent with his punting over the years in J-Ville, and the fans at this point felt anyone was better than what we had. Little did we know that we actually signed a true special teams weapon. Bryan Anger's punting this year was some of the finest work this franchise has ever seen. The guy did it all: coffin kicks, booming positional kicks, pin-em-deep specials. You name it, Anger pulled it off. His net average of 45.9 was a number that this team had not seen in quite some time.

The Buccaneers rewarded Anger's work this year with a contract extension. Much deserved, if you ask me. This guy has put the fears of competent punting to bed...now we just have to work on making sure our kicker gets his mind right. Maybe Anger can rub off his magic to Roberto so the consistency. Thanks Bryan for turning a nightmare into a quiet peaceful evening.

Stats - 70 punts, 2,987 yards, 45.9 average, 59 long, 37 punts inside the 20
