The Tampa Bay Buccaneers cannot catch any injury breaks this season. Today, the Bucs have lost three players to injury.
First, wide receiver Cecil Shorts left the game with a right leg injury that appeared serious enough to end his season. He was carted off with an air cast around his right leg.
That’s bad enough, both for Shorts and the Bucs, but then the offense suffered two more injuries. Tight end Luke Stocker, a key cog in the team’s running game as a blocker, has been ruled out for the game with an ankle injury. And slot receiver Adam Humphries had to leave with a concussion and will not return.
It’s not clear how serious those last two injuries are and what the implications are for the rest of the season, but it’s a pretty big problem in this game. They’re now having to rely on special teams ace Russell Shepard and undrafted journeyman Freddie Martino next to Mike Evans — and that’s it, they have no other receivers on the roster right now.
