A Tampa Bay native, born just across the water in St Pete, Murphy was drafted out of Florida in the fourth round by the Oakland Raiders in 2009. He spent three seasons in silver and black, before signing three one-year contracts on the trot: in 2012 with the Carolina Panthers, in 2013 with the New York Giants, and now in 2014 with the Bucs.
Despite playing in 14 games last year, Murphy caught just six balls for 37 yards, though one of them was for a touchdown. Nonetheless, he has some very attractive qualities - in particular his speed, having run a 4.32 40 in the 2009 combine.
Murphy will likely head into training camp as the #3 receiver - dependant on the draft and, of course, what the team decides to do with Mike Williams. He adds a dimension to the receiving corps not currently on the roster, but the fact that he has not received a multi-season contract since his rookie contract finished means that the former Gator will need to prove his worth over the summer to lock down a sure roster spot.
