The Bucs finally were able to trade one of their players without having to release them. Lovie Smith and gang were able to get a 2015 5th round selection for Jeremy Zuttah.
Zuttah ranked 21 of 34 Centers according to Bleacher Reports top 1,000. Tampa did all right to get a 5th round pick. But when it was released that Zuttah and Baltimore had agreed to re-structure his contract. What I’m curious about is if Zuttah was willing to re-structure why wouldn’t Tampa re-work the contract to be team friendly and retain a versatile O-linemen?
As of right now the Bucs O-Line would look Collins, Nicks (if healthy), Evan Dietrich-Smith, Oniel Cousins and Demar Dotson. Collins has never played a whole season as a starter, while he has shown great protection and skill going 16 games is different. Dotson is average at best but a centerpiece of consistency. EDS was ranked 5th among centers last season and assisted with Rodgers in calling out coverage’s. Cousins is another question mark, he was replaced after four games into the season for being manhandled at the line.
Unless Tampa can build some depth in the draft, which could be difficult with only having 5 picks, Tampa could be playing football next season in a glass house. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing what Tampa adds to their O-Line for next season.
