Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams is facing criminal mischief and trespassing charges, Bay News 9 first reported. No details about the case have been made public at this point. The Buccaneers did release a statement, via the Tampa Bay Times.
"We have spoken with Mike Williams and the local authorities regarding the charges that have been filed against him. All of our players are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the high character and moral responsibility that we demand as representatives of the Buccaneers organization."
With reports surfacing last week that the former regime was contemplating releasing Mike Williams due to a supposed lack of focus on football while on injured reserve, this does not appear to be a good time for the receiver. At the same time, trespass and mischief charges aren't usually too serious and shouldn't result in a suspension, though he'll undoubtedly face internal discipline, which the Bucs undoubtedly will not make public.
Williams has a small history of minor off-field incidents, mostly occurring in college. He had one DUI charge dismissed in 2010, which is the extent of his off-field issues in the NFL.
