A week or so ago I did a Fanpost outlining the different options I felt like Tampa had in the 1st & 2nd round, and after writing that long post, I went back and watched some more film on different defensive guys.
I briefly mentioned Kyle Van Noy from BYU as an option and I hadn't really dug into his film too much. After writing that Fanpost I went back and reviewed more and was extremely impressed with the his skillset and range.
Here's what I think Tampa could possibly pull off...trade down in the 1st to around 14 - 17 to Ebron's range to gain another 2nd or a 3rd (all I'd ask for, stay with me, 2nd would be optimum) then in the 1st nab Eric Ebron, with the 1st 2nd get a much needed BPA OL then with the 2nd get Van Noy. Then in the 4th get an OG or OT depending on who was taken in the 2nd.
Those 3-4 picks would help by adding some really good pieces to a couple of the positions Tampa needs help with.
What I saw with Van Noy after much more film was a driven football player and an ELITE pass rusher from the OLB spot, always causing havoc, FFs, errant throws, sacks, GREAT field vision to sift through traffic and hits like he's 240 despite only being about 225 - 30. Long arms helped and he was better in coverage than I initially thought, just a STUD once I watched enough film. I will also say I didn't watch a single game that he wasn't either schemed for and had multiple blockers to beat and still did it or QBs adjusting and sliding over someone on his side. This wasn't the case with Mack, and Van Noy was still so dangerous as a pass rusher and just able to wreak and create total havoc EVERY play almost. The BYU defense was one of the best with his pass rush ability, he was feared and a leader for that D. I really struggled figuring out a good comparison so I went to watch some college film of good pass rushing OLBs and I found one, Clay Matthews. They are almost identical at the same stage in their career, now Clay obviously grew into a Jack OLB in a 3 man at Green Bay, but a lot of the same skillset, only difference I see is a bit more of a unquestioned leader with Van Noy. Both are spark plugs at their position and were in college and both were highly respected pass rushers that an OC had to gameplan to attempt to negate. I think KVN has a huge opportunity to be an impact guy and will be a huge steal for some team, I just hope its Tampa
So lets get to the poll
