Now That The Jags vs Titans War-Crime of a Game is Over Here's Who You Should Root For

STL vs NYG

Well that was atrocity that probably had Pop Warner and Vince Lombardi rolling in their graves last night. The key thing to pull from this is that the Titans (and an extremely unlikely Bucs win in their final two games) are the only obstacles between the Bucs and the #1 overall pick.

So the question is who should we be rooting for in these final two weeks to ensure that Bucs do get the first pick and THEIR choice (not ours, not the pundits, not your mom's, but their choice) with the first pick.

The Titans loss to the Jags put them in position to take over the first pick by the time things are said and done on Monday night. Below I will lay out that scenario. Please note that for this exercise I will be comparing total wins on the schedule as opposed to losses because A) the tiebreaker is based on WINNING percentage not losing percentage and B) both ways will get us to the same conclusion (minus ties). Coming into this week the Bucs Schedule has 106 wins, the Titans had 110.

Worst Case Scenario Week 16 - Winners in Bold (Only games that affect the draft status of the Titans & Bucs - Also The WORST case scenario would include a Bucs win):

TEN vs JAC; PHI vs WAS; MIN vs MIA; BAL vs HOU; DET vs CHI; CLE vs CAR; GB vs TB; NE vs NYJ; KC vs PIT; STL vs NYG; ATL vs NO; IND vs DAL; DEN vs CIN

Each Teams Schedule Strength (In terms of total wins) – TB: +12 118 TEN: +7 117

This would give the Titans a 3 game cushion in heading into week 17.

A more likely scenario for Week 16 would play out as such:

TEN vs JAC; PHI vs WAS; MIN vs MIA; BAL vs HOU; DET vs CHI; CLE vs CAR; GB vs TB; NE vs NYJ; KC vs PIT; STL vs NYG; ATL vs NO; IND vs DAL; DEN vs CIN

Each Teams Schedule Strength (In terms of total wins) – TB: +9 115 TEN: +8 118

This would give the Bucs just a 3 game cushion heading into week 17.

Week 16: STL vs NYG - This game is probably the biggest of the week 16 matchups. A Giants win would pretty much assure, assuming everything else goes in pattern with the rest of the season, the Bucs get the first pick.

Week 17 then could play out like this (Winners in bold):

ATL vs CAR; CLE vs BAL; DAL vs WAS; IND vs TEN; DET vs GB; JAC vs HOU; SD vs KC; NYJ vs MIA; CHI vs MIN; PHI vs NYG; CIN vs PIT; NO vs TB; STL vs SEA

Each Teams Strength (In terms of total wins) – TB: + 8 123 TEN: + 9 127

An even closer version of Week 17 would play out like this (Winners in bold):

ATL vs CAR; CLE vs BAL; DAL vs WAS; IND vs TEN; DET vs GB; JAC vs HOU; SD vs KC; NYJ vs MIA; CHI vs MIN; PHI vs NYG; CIN vs PIT; NO vs TB; STL vs SEA

Each Teams Strength (In terms of total wins) – TB: + 8 123 TEN: + 8 126

Week 17: The biggest game in the determination for the first overall pick is NO vs TB. A loss gives the Bucs a great shot at the first pick. A win and the Bucs could fall as far as 6th.

TL;DR EVERYONE IS A GIANTS FAN THIS WEEK.
