We always think everyone should learn from their mistakes. And I think it should be that way but it's not easy as it seems. Sometimes you get stuck in your ways and just doing something different looks so abnormal. This is one of the the problems we have with Lovie Smith. I just wish he came out and admit decisions and admit he made wrong choices. So many questions I want this guy to answer. Why keep playing Josh McCown? How does Josh McCown help the future of this franchise which is the most important thing? Why not play Mike Glennon to know what you have? He might not be the future why not find out if he is worth the #2 starter? Why not get his value up by playing him and trade him for a 3rd, 4th or 5th round pick? Did you really scout Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson or were you guys just desperate to sign a free agent? And if you did scout him, you and your crew are really bad scouts and I think the Bucs problem is just beginning. Why on earth did you think Mike Jenkins was better than Johnthan Banks at first? Why do we have to live and die by this Tampa 2 of yours? Why did you let Jeremy Zuttah leave? Who told you Dietrich-Smith was better? And Anthony Collins was better than Donald Penn? These are the questions Bucs Fans need answers to.
Now lets talk about his scheme. I don't like the Patriots but I respect Bill Belichick because he is not afraid to try new things. Every week, he changes his plan of attack offensively and defensively. Keeping you guessing and on gameday he will show it to you. You are expecting Revis to play you best receiver, sorry that's not what you are getting. He puts Browner and a safety on him. You expecting Man on Man, you get some type of zone. The reason why is because the other teams are no fools and it is an insult to them to play one scheme most of the time. Atleast make them think and worry about what you going to do on 3rd and long. Like I referenced earlier, it's harder to pass and exam you don't know what's coming. You are hoping what you prepared for shows up. Teams will work and make sure you don't beat them with what they already know is coming. Preparation is the name of the game. Everyone talks about in game adjustment. Please! Everything a team does on Gameday is what they have prepared for during the week and sometimes some adjustment is just impossible to make. If you didn't prepare for it, you are doomed. Some coaches look like geniuses when they adjust on the fly. Sorry, it is because they have a play or plays installed already and their players are comfortable with it or they just simply covered all bases during the week. So it looks like magic. The fact remains if you don't have an answer, you don't have an answer. Let us ask ourselves why didn't the Redskins provide an answer to Odell Beckham. The Giants exploited that coverage over and over again. They knew the Redskins didn't have an answer for it. For the Redskins, any change you make messes up what you have installed during the week and leads to more disaster.
I am a student and if I know whats coming on an exam, I never fail, and If I should fail, I don't deserve to be a student or earn a degree. In these situations I don't bother wasting too much time on other chapters. I still devote 20 percent of my time on other things but I go straight to the chapter I know the questions are coming from. And I know Coaches in the NFL do the same thing. I'd like to be in the meeting room when preparing for the Bucs. I guarantee the Offensive Coordinators are yelling "We will be working on different cover 2 Beaters for most of the week. Get Ready".
Just a quick example, say an exam has a total of 30 questions and about 80 percent will be on one chapter. I will devote 80 percent of my time on that chapter. That's me getting 24 questions right out of 30. Let' us say I don't even get all the 24 questions right. Getting 70 percent of those 24 gives me a outright chance of passing the exams because thats me getting 21 questions right out of 30. Even if I I get 60 percent right, thats me getting 18 out of 30. Now in the in NFL, my lowest percentage of 60 percent success over a certain coverage is outstanding.Even having a 50 percent success isn't bad at all. Also that doesn't mean I will fail on the other 20 percent. Other factors are to be considered during a game. Against the Panthers this season, Greg Olsen and Kevin Benjamin had good outings in the first game, it was the same situation in the rematch. Where is the Adjustment Lovie Smith?
In all, I won't be surprised if the Bucs don't do well next year. And it hurts me. He needs to change his ways and if he doesn't, the Bucs won't be winning soon. You can bring all the first round picks in this world and it will be same result. The good teams don't get a chance to draft really high but it doesn't stop them from winning. Winning is not just having players, it is a lot of things incorporated from top to bottom.
