Coaching rumors: Buccaneers announce Jeff Tedford, will hire Marcus Arroyo as QBs coach

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially announce the hiring of Jeff Tedford, while outlets report they will bring in Marcus Arroyoy as quarterbacks coach and Kevin O'Dea as special teams coordinator.

Earlier today, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially announced the hiring of Jeff Tedford as their offensive coordinator. The former Cal head coach signed a two-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, which is a little on the short side for a coordinator but has been the standard for assistant coaches in Tampa in recent years. Lovie Smith called Tedford a great fit, and cited a "successful and proven track record as a teacher and developer of young talent".

Tedford will bring along Marcus Arroyo as the Buccaneers' quarterbacks coach, according to Fox Sports' Alex Marvez. Marcus Arroyo was the offensive coordinator at Southern Miss this past season and worked as a quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator under Tedford for two seasons at California. Prior to joining Tedford he spent time as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wyoming and San Jose State.

Arroyo will have the rather important task of improving Mike Glennon's play, or helping Tedford, Lovie Smith and the team's yet to be named general manager select a new passer.

Meanwhile, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports the Bucs will try to bring in Kevin O'Dea as a special teams coordinator. O'Dea was Lovie Smith's special teams coordinator in 2010 but has spent almost his entire career as a special teams assistant with various teams, most recently (and currently) with the Kansas City Chiefs. O'Dea also spent six years with the Buccaneers as an assistant from 1996 to 2001. The Chiefs will have to give permission for O'Dea to leave if the Bucs want to hire him.
