I'm a glass half-full kind of guy when it comes to Mike Glennon. I spent the morning looking at the youtube game film of Glennon vs FSU, Miami, UNC, and Clemson. I saw a QB that threw soft catchable and accurate throws underneath and in the middle of the field. He also threw hard and accurate passes to the outside.
Saw plenty of inconsitency as well...but the thing I liked the most about Glennon is that he was reading the defense. You could see him pick up the blitz, deliver the ball with timing, and you could see him scanning the field for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd receiving options.
But what I like the most about this...is that we have him signed for a reported 4 year $2.75 million contract. We save on Freeman's second contract which many had pegged at $14+ million p/year. That money can now be re-invested into TE, 3rd WR and OL & DL DEPTH!!
If this move works...we now have much more cap flexibility and space to re-sign our free agents in 2015 (such as Gerald McCoy, Foster, etc) and 2016 (Doug Martin, Levante David, Mark Barron) as our star class of rookies last year will be coming off rookie contracts.
If this move works - Bucs may just have put themselves in a great position for the next 4 years. Bucs fans - Freeman has been proven that he is not going to be the answer - and we could potentially be a much better overall team because of it. Not having to draft a QB in 1st Round gives us tremendous flexibility as well.
I like the move...if it works the Bucs may have put themselves in a wonderful situation and the talk of reaching for Glennon in the 3rd round now becomes wonderful anticipation by our coaching and front office staff. As a glass half-full kind of Bucs fan - I'm very excited to see Glennon grow and take ownership of this offense.
