Dashon Goldson Suspension: Buccaneers safety wins appeal, plays vs Patriots

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Dashon Goldson has won his appeal for a one game suspension, and will appear on the field against the New England Patriots.

Dashon Goldson will suit up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the New England Patriots after winning his appeal to a one-game suspension today, according to Adam Schefter.

Goldson was suspended for his hit on Darren Sproles against the New Orleans Saints. It was the safety's fifteenth personal foul since 2010, which leads the league. Goldson was fined $30,000 the week before and has managed to rack up a massive $107,500 in fines from the NFL, prompting the suspension on his hit this week. Apparently the NFL felt that the suspension was too hefty a punishment, although I'm sure the safety can expect another fine instead.

The Buccaneers have said that they are working on getting players to hit in the right strike zone, but so far the Bucs have faced four flags for hits to the head in three games. Hard hits are fun to watch and intimidating for an offense, but there's a problem when you're drawing constant 15-yard penalties and possibly suspensions.

With Goldson back the Buccaneers should be well-equipped to deal with a Patriots receiving corps dealing with injuries. The Buccaneers played a lot of big dime with three safeties on the field against the New Orleans Saints and had a lot of success with that personnel grouping. With Goldson available, they should be able to continue that trend.
