Ravens embarrass Bucs 44-16

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers couldn't get anything going against the Baltimore Ravens, as backups and special teams doomed the Bucs.

Ravens lead 31-16, Peyton Hillis injured

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't looking too good in their first preseason game, as the Baltimore Ravens took a 31-13 lead over the Bucs. Tyrod Taylor marched down the field on their opening second half drive, giving the Bucs' secondary and pass rush fits. Rashaan Melvin lost the ball in the air to give LaQuan Williams an easy, 28-yard touchdown.

A Mike Glennon interception on a bad throw and one three-and-out later, the Buccaneers got some points back, at least. While Chris Owusu continued to look bad, Kevin Ogletree and Derek Hagan did show up for Mike Glennon, who struggled some with his accuracy. The Bucs got a field goal out of that possession, with Derek Dimke hitting his third of the day.

Unfortunately, the Buccaneers have lost Peyton Hillis to a knee injury,

Bucs vs Ravens Third Quarter Open Thread

Here's your open thread for the third quarter.

Ravens 24 Bucs 13 as first half ends

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will head into the locker room with a 17-13 deficit, after an Anthony Allen touchdown run. The secondary failed a couple of times leading up to that run, of course, with a lack of pressure from the defensive line being a real concern. Especially given the fact that it included two starters for most of the drive in Akeem Spence and Da'Quan Bowers.

And to make matters worse, the Bucs then gave up a sack to end their own two-minute drive. This led to a blocked punt, and another Baltimore Ravens touchdown, giving them a 24-13 lead as we head to the second half. Greg Schiano is not going to be happy with this performance.

Bucs take 13-7 lead

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have regained the lead with a Brian Leonard touchdown run after two consecutive defensive pass interference calls, drawn by Chris Owusu.

The Bucs had given up the lead on the previous possession. The Baltimore Ravens took a 7-6 lead with Bernard Pierce punching in the touchdown on a 20-yard run. Backup safety Keith Tandy got outleveraged as the edge defender. The Bucs defense had been playing well up to that point, forcing a three-and-out minutes before. Unfortunately, a muffed punt by Chris Owusu had given the Ravens the ball back.

Bucs vs. Ravens Second Quarter Open Thread

Here's your second quarter thread for today's game between the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bucs take 3-0 lead

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a 3-0 lead on their second offensive drive. The Bucs struggled to get things going without their two starting offensive guards, but Brian Leonard as the backup running back and third receiver Kevin Ogletree showed up during the first two offensive series. kicker Derek Dimke capped it off with a short field goal.

The defense was more impressive, though. Akeem Spence looked good as the starting nose tackle, while Lavonte David got a 10-yard sack and Danny Gorrer forced a turnover with a great break on the ball on third down.

The starters on offense are now done, so we can probably call that a win for the Buccaneers.
