Ah, every year is a new year. Which means an equal chance for every team in their respected division to grab their own divisional crown and a shot at the ever elusive post season spot. The NFC South is a difficult division to win, being very un-predictable. A surprising fact about the NFC South is, no team has ever won it two seasons in a row. Will this be the year or will one of the other challenging teams grab the title from the Falcons? Here is why the Bucs can do it.
Offense: The Buc's offense has been getting better for years now. A steady increase in production has resulted in arguably the most balanced rushing, and passing attack in the NFC South. With our amazing talent will the Buc's finally show us their true potential for a whole season? Consistency has been a huge problem for our offense. Facing the less than stellar defenses of the division twice a year should help though. Now that the new looked offense got a year under their belt's together expect to see an even better offense this year.
New Defense: As i stated above the offense hasn't been an issue for the Buccaneers, but rather the pass defense. Last season losing Talib, and a less than stellar supporting cast, we could only go up from the worst pass defense in history, and I think we might. Signing Revis, and Goldson are going to ramp up a young secondary that just needs some teachers, and we might have the best now.
Experience: If you think about it we relied on a lot of people that didn't have a heck of a lot of experience starting together, or even in the NFL. Our running back was straight out of Boise and no one had any idea how he'd hold up with the big guys, Vjax was fresh into a new offense with a new quarterback, our line backers were all young, we had a rookie safety and Ronde was playing safety for the first time ever, and even after all of that the worked together decently. This year should be even smoother, Schiano has a year of experience along with most of the team together. Only leaving the question can we do it?
What Needs To Happen: For the Bucs to really make a shot at the South and a playoff birth this season, Tampa must play their game. By this I mean keep the running game balanced with the passing attack. In the five of the seven games Tampa Bay won Doug had over twenty carries, and we only lost three games when Doug got twenty carries. In games when Martin got under twenty carries Tampa was 2-5. All of that talking means even when were down a score or two we have to try to keep defenses guessing. Tom Brady isn't dropping back for the Bucs, meaning we cannot sling the ball up and down the field every game. Besides balance we obviously must defend the pass but we won't get into that. Percentage Chance of Tampa Bay winning the NFC South 15%, hard to bet against basically the same Falcons team.
