Redskins vs. Buccaneers Final Score: Tampa Bay's backups embarrassed by Washington backups

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost their final preseason game 30-12 against the Washington Redskins.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost their final preseason game against the Washington Redskins, ending the 2013 preseason with a 1-3 record and a lot of ugly play along the way. This game was no exception: the Bucs looked sloppy and outmatched, with only a few starters playing for either team. Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon did get extensive playing time, well into the third quarter, but couldn't produce more than three points.

The first half was a disaster for the Bucs' offense, with just 7 passing yards on the half. Mike Glennon looked uncomfortable, the pass protection was not holding up and the communication with the receivers seemed to be off as well. Two turnovers, one a lost fumble and one a bad interception. The only points the Bucs put up in the first half came as a result of an interception returned for a touchdown by Najee Goode - with the ensuing PAT being missed by Derek Dimke.

The defense wasn't much better. Outside of the interception they didn't show much at all, and tackling was atrocious throughout the first half. It was just a bad effort all-around, even though they had a number of starters on the field for the first couple of drives. And all of that happened against Pat White, who consistently embarrassed the backup defenders.

But overall, in the fourth preseason game, team play doesn't matter. It's individual performances we should be looking at, and a few players cemented their roster spots against the Redskins. Eric Page had a number of nice returns and did well as a receiver in the second half, and he's almost certain to make the roster. William Gholston flashed in a major way at defensive end, while he was in danger of being released.

Najee Goode and Ahmad Black both showed up on defense as solid tacklers. Nate Byham managed a couple of catches at tight end, while Deveron Carr had a few good plays at cornerback as well. Finally, Jordan Norwood, signed yesterday, was able to get down the field and make a 25-yard catch as well as a long defensive pass interference penalty - and even got a few carries as a running back. Rian Lindell seemed to win the kicking job over Derek Dimke with a 50-yard kick.

A few other players stood out in a negative way. Second-year safety Keith Tandy looked bad, and has looked bad throughout the preseason. Gabe Carimi really struggled at left guard, which should be a concern as he appears to be the first resort to come in for Carl Nicks. Steven Means couldn't follow up on some decent play in previous games, while the pass rush overall was lacking.

The Bucs will now prepare for the New York Jets to open the season on Sunday, September 8.

Injuries

Tom Crabtree was carted off the field with what appeared to be a major ankle injury. He sustained that injury when his leg got trapped under an offensive lineman. He did not make it back on the field.

Peyton Hillis limped off the field with an apparent ankle injury in the third quarter. He tried to return to the game, so the injury probably wasn't too serious.
