"Another Eric Wright post??? Come on Collino..." Yeah I know, but I wanted to write this more about how super GM Mark Dominik pulled a fast one on the 49ers. Standing O for Mark, because he just traded away not only 1.5 million dollars that could go to a guy like Mike Williams, but also a injury prone, often troubled CB that was likely facing a suspension for multiple DUI arrests.
I don't know if people realize that Wright could be looking at a 8 game suspension for that arrest. To me, that makes trading him worth it by a long shot. Also, the reports that if the Bucs were unable to find a trade partner they would just cut him anyway make me feel like Mark made the best of a bad situation and turned a failed FA pick up into a free draft pick.
Addressing the need that now stands at CB, I believe that the Bucs might be putting to much faith into a 2nd round pick. Guys like Danny Gorrer, Anthony Gaitor, and yes, even Myron Lewis(crying in corner) are going to be looking to make a name for themselves in camp to try and get that 4th corner spot, likely behind Leonard Johnson.
This tweet made me laugh. To me it sounds like the 49ers GM wasn't to aware of the arrest and the possible punishment that Wright was facing.
49ers GM Trent Baalke on question of whether they knew about Wright's arrest before trade: "We are pleased to add Eric to our team....
