Who will win the NFC South?

So here we are another season about to begin and the predictions are going to start flying. Well as you know from last year’s mildly popular Nostradamus effect I am going to do it again this year. So we saved the best for last in the NFC South home of the Bucs, Falcons, Panthers and Saints. So without further adieu let’s get started:

Well our beloved team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made some huge strides in the past 2 off-season’s to revitalize an angry fan base demanding results and they have done so in stunning fashion. When you consider the amount of talent this team has on its roster via free agency and draft most notably in the last 4 seasons (draft) and last 2 (F/A) there seems to be no question why we aren’t competing for a playoff spot right? Well who is to blame? Dcbucsfan did a nice fanshot regarding that very topic go check it out if you haven’t already. So that debate can rage on there but in short everyone in is to blame to some degree from the top on down. But I will say this about our team; this is the first time in a long time that I feel confident about our direction. We are fickle fans us Bucs fans and we DEMAND results especially since we now have a SB to be proud of. But we are just now recovering from a period in which we paid penance for what it cost to win it. We are coming off a record setting year on offense and defense sadly but have maintained our offense and in some ways have improved it and while we didn’t get the TE that everyone wanted or “wasted” a 3rd round pick on QB Mike Glennon we are the Seattle Seahawks of a year ago. We are building a franchise to stand the test of time. We have the premier guys at many key positions G Carl Nicks, WR Vincent Jackson, FS Dashon Goldson and of course CB Derrelle Revis. We also have some budding young talent with RB Doug Martin, WR Mike Williams, and SS Mark Barron to name a few. So there should be no reason why we don’t make the playoffs this year right? Well keep in mind our division is still pretty tough for now and we play the toughest division in football in the NFC West and we play the AFC East also. So pulling double digits wins will be a challenge to say the least but I think we can do it and will. I project a good season for QB Josh Freeman and our defense will keep us in games we would have otherwise lost. We make the playoffs via wildcard.

The Atlanta Falcons finally broke the stigma of not being able to win a playoff game but did not make it to the big dance. They made some strides where they needed the most help by bolstering their secondary with CB Desmond Trufant and CB Robert Alford and I think the addition to adding DE Osi Umenyiora and RB Steven Jackson to offset the losses RB Michael Turner and DE John Abraham but I don’t see any improvement per say just adequate replacements. They had a decent draft and made some moves in free agency but I don’t see a Super Bowl champion however I do see them winning the division again.

The Carolina Panthers are clearly rebuilding and will keep doing so after this year. They did make a big pick up with DT Star Lotulelei but otherwise had a pretty bland draft. I don’t see a clear vision in building the team up to compete in this division they need help in the secondary and may not be able to stop the powerhouse WR’s in our division. I see them falling to the bottom of our division. Also I predict that Ron Rivera will be out after delivering his final losing season.

The New Orleans Saints get Sean Payton back and should make some progress this year. If you are still even reading this since all playoff teams have been predicted/announced. I like the S Kenny Vaccaro and Jarvis Jones draft picks but otherwise another pretty bland draft for our division rival. I don’t see a system fit for CB Keenan Lewis but they need the help in the secondary to compete with the WR’s in our division again I don’t see that will shut it down this year but will make waves offensively I just don’t see enough collectively for this team. The tough part I had with picking the NFC South was who would be division champ whether it was Falcons or the Saints to so to me really they are interchangeable but for this case we will give them 3rd.
