Closing in on the draft: Mock Draft

With the Draft approaching and Bucs fans anxious as to whether or not the Bucs will acquire Darrelle Revis from the Jets for multiple draft picks, I decided to do a two scenario draft. One for the Bucs trading for Revis, the other without him.

Draft- Assuming the trade for Revis goes through, the Bucs no longer need to pick CB first. The Bucs 1st round pick (#13), 3rd round pick (#73), and 6th round pick (#196) are all gone. Leaving the Bucs with just 5 selections in the 2013 draft. For me, the draft needs are DT, DE, CB, QB, OT, TE, and RB

2nd round pick #43- Kawann Short DT Purdue: With CB being less of a need, DT becomes the most glaring hole in my opinion.

4th round pick #112- Leon McFadden CB San Diego St: Very consistent cornerback who would serve as the 3rd corner.

4th round pick #126- Joe Kruger DE Utah: Kruger is very strong. His reps at the combine didn't show it but his play does. He uses the bull rush technique almost every down. Has great size and bloodline.

5th round pick #147- Brad Sorenson QB Southern Utah: The guy to push Josh Freeman. Becomes 3rd QB on the team.

6th round pick #181- Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin: He may have maxed out in his talents, but he still is a pretty good Tackle. He had a bad season when put at RT but the season before when he played LT he was considered one of the best in the nation.

Now this mock is if the Bucs don't trade for Revis. The picks that the Bucs have remaining are 1(13) 2(47) 3(73) 4(112) 4(126) 5(147) 6(181) 6(196). The Bucs needs in my opinion are as follows: CB, DT, DE, CB, QB, OT, OLB, TE, and RB.

1st round pick #13- TRADE! Hear me out. Dee Milliner and Xavier Rhodes are gone to a multitude of teams in CB need. Star Lotulelei and Sharrif Floyd are also gone somewhere between picks 1-12. Teams that I can see trying to make that move to get them a step ahead of the competition are the Falcons and the 49ers. I see two possible trades, 49ers pick #31 #34, and #173 for #13, or Falcons pick #30, #60, #133, and a 2014 3rd round pick for #13. By the way, these are based off of the draft pick value charts and come within 100 points.

1st round pick #30-31- D.J. Hayden CB Houston. Although he is riding up the draft boards now, I don't expect he will be picked to early because of his injury. If you don't know what that injury is, it was a knee to the chest from a fellow CB at Houston that caused one of his main veins to rip from his heart and poor blood into his chest cavity. He nearly died. Great story, great prospect, sounds like a good fit as a Buccaneer.

The first scenario involves a trade between the Bucs and 49ers:

2nd round pick #34- Margus Hunt DE SMU: If the Bucs get #34 from the 49ers then this should be the pick.

2nd round pick #47- Kawann Short DT Purdue: Meet the new starter next to Gerald McCoy. Hopefully for years to come.

3rd round pick #73- B.W. Webb CB William & Mary: He may not be the best tackler but he can cover and has versatility to make pick 6's. Also, he could double as a return man if need be.

4th round pick #112- Marcus Lattimore RB South Carolina: Two terrible injuries two each knee have turned Lattimore from a 1st round pick to a 4th round pick or later. I hope the Bucs snag him while he is available.

4th round pick #126- Landry Jones QB Oklahoma: He wont ever be elite, but he can serve as a good backup.

5th round pick #147- Marquess Wilson WR Washington State University: Maybe its the fact that I live near WSU, but Wilson is damn good. To me this is another Mike Williams falls to the 4th round because of behavior issues. Boom, make it happen.

6th round pick #173- Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin: Wagner once again

6th round pick #181- Jake Stoneburner TE Ohio State: A project who is a good athlete but not a great football player.

6th round pick #196- Steven Means OLB Buffalo: Im taking this straight from DP's Draft Guide. Project OLB.

Now for the other scenario involving a trade with the Falcons.

2nd round pick #47- Kawann Short DT Purdue: Regardless, the Bucs need help at DT.

2nd round pick #60- Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB UCONN: He is a good sized CB with decent speed. Wreh-Wilson has a natural ability to play man coverage. So either the Bucs get Margus Hunt or Wreh-WIlson. Ill take it.

3rd round pick #73- Tyrann Mathieu CB LSU: Regardless of whether or not the Bucs need another corner at this pick, he is still a good pick up. He is good so why not pick him up.

4th round pick #112- Marcus Lattimore RB South Carolina: Same

4th round pick #126- Landry Jones QB Oklahoma: Same

4th round pick #133- Lavar Edwards DE LSU: Edwards was a rotational player at LSU because of all the other talent that LSU had at the position. He is still a good prospect.

5th round pick #147- Marquess Wilson WR WSU: Same

6th round pick #181- Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin: Same

6th round pick #196- Steven Means OLB Buffalo: Same
