Schiano: Not on board with Freeman? Lets look at a different perspective.

It's a battle of thumb war between Josh Freeman and Greg Schiano. At the end of the 2012 season Greg Schiano talked about bringing in competition for Freeman. To some bringing in competition is to get the best out of a player, to others(Freeman Haters) it meant finding a replacement for the inconsistent quarterback. Personally I think this is just Schiano's way of pushing Freeman to his max potential. In fact I think Schiano is behind Freeman 100% and I'll tell you why. Schiano has never been one to beat around the bush and is a pretty straight up guy. He will tell you what he can talk about, what he can't, and he will clear up rumors. That being said for him to come out at the combine and say "Freeman is our guy" makes me believe there is no intention to replace the Buccaneers Franchise recording setting QB unless he has his worse season ever. Schiano knows what Freeman is capable of and wants to push him by not letting him feel comfortable and knowing that he can always do better. Freeman has never had anyone to push him and make him feel like he's going to loose his job, but now coming into the final year of his contract and a coach who's not technically married to him. Freeman is going to have to show he's the QB we saw in 2010(click to view video) and most of 2012(click to view video).

In my opinion after watching that(which I know Schiano has seen that and more) you can't say he's not a Franchise QB, not to mention all these rumor picks the Bucs are willing to trade to get Revis a 1st/3rd/6th what ever it is shows that the Bucs know if they fix the pass defense we're heading to the playoffs. Why else would you want to give that many picks up.

For Schiano to come in and have a top 9 offense and a 29th ranked defense, he has to know where the problems are. A defense that led the league in negative plays and was #1 against the run, but last in pass defense and 28th in sacks. The Bucs need defensive back help. This is why they signed Goldson and trying to acquire Revis in a trade. They still need some pass rush. McCoy showing he can stay healthy and getting Clayborn and Bowers back Should improve the pass rush, but they still need to find one more DT(Richardson) because even though they provide good depth, i'm not sold on Gibson or Landri. The Buccaneers know if you give Freeman at least a pass defense ranked at least 15- 20 we can win with him and he'll take us to the playoffs. Injuries, suspensions, bad play calling at times (3 man rush on Brees) or the 3rd and 15 handoff(which I blame Freeman for equally for not checking out of the play) plagued our season, but this was a whole new coaching staff at every position. Going into a 2nd year this should come together nicely if we draft as good as we did last year.
