Hello there Bucs fans from your friendly neighborhood CSC member. Somehow I drew the Tampa Bay bucs in the Canal Street Chronicle annual mock draft. Normally I'd shrug and move on and pick. However, this year more than any other, there's a major quandary for me.
Now there's no doubt your number one need is corner. Not even close. (remember this is a mock, there's no trading down, and at this point i have to assume no Revis blah blah blah). However, there are no corners worthy of number 14. Now it's time to be logical and not think with your Southern Florida minds here. Milliner is going to be gone, and I'm sorry....Rhodes is NOT a first round corner. In fact he's most likely the fourth rated corner in the draft behind Trufant and Wilson. Please....please don't yell. Much like me having to deal with the homerism LSU fans at CSC, please try to think outside the Florida State love.
Now I don't reach for players...I just don't. It's poor draft philosophy. So while Trufant is a tremendous player, he's also worthy of picking in the low 20s, not at number 14. This is why the quandary. Not addressing the 32nd rated pass defense just feels WRONG. Thankfully you have stepped up the safety play with the addition of Goldson. So if I'm forced to ignore CB, your other needs seem to pop out as DT, DE, TE, WR.
Eiffert will be there, however, the needs on defense I feel are more important. With Bowers' legal problems DE could wind up a bigger need than even DT, however, DT is a much stronger class with a bevy of talent floating around that position especially rated close to your draft position. At the moment, I'm leaning toward Sylvester Williams over Richardson assuming Star Loutelelei is gone. Richardson is slightly higher rated, but I feel mirrors McCoy too closely. Williams I believe would be a better anchor against the run and pair up well versus McCoy's penetration.
Overall I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on this and would like to solicit some potential ideas from everyone. Remember...play nice with the Saints fan....and no...Xavier Rhodes is NOT an option. Sorry...gotta remember, take the homer out of the pick. This mock BTW...is a first round only mock.
